our first filming exercise...

Today we did our first piece of filming, we had to film a short piece using a number of different clips which we would later edit together.
Strengths:
1) We made sure our separate clips were long so we had room to cut them down and edit them to the size we wanted.
2) We used effects in our editing phase to ensure continuity.
3) Our camera angles were good in our opinion we used a wide variety of shots.

Weaknesses:
1) We didn't use to tripod correctly to start with.
2) Some of our clips don't fit together.
3) Some of our shots were a bit shaky.

To improve we could make sure the shots are faster to get a better pace in over all clip. We need to make sure the camera work looks more professional (ie cant see camera man/woman in windows.

Filming ideas.

Hi again.
We have decided to re-create the last 40 seconds of 'The uninvited' a slasher film made by previous students. We chose the last 40 seconds because we decided it would be the most effective part of the film.
We have decided we need to film in someone's house as the original was filmed in a house. We are going to use Abby's house because it will be available to use when we want to film.
We are going to ask Amelia Linney and Mykola Allen to act in our film as they have acting experience and will be reliable.

Our first post.

Hey. You are reading the blog of Abby and Joe! This is our first post for media studies. We are re-making a slasher student film.
Over the next couple of weeks we will be learning camera and editing skills that we can later use when creating our own horror film opening. To learn these skills we are re-creating a student horror film opening that was made by previous media studies students. Other skills that we will learn along the way include story boarding, continuity and genre conventions.
To be assessed we will have to only re-create 30/40 seconds of the student film we have chosen. We have decided to do the last 40 seconds of the film as we thought it was the most effective part.

Cya on the next post!
